A Cure for Self-Importance

Brand new video from an unmanned Japanese lunar mission called Selene (moon). Yeah–that’s us. The Earth. All of us. Watch it through to the setting and think about how big we really are.

  1. Size and significance aren’t correlated. Isn’t God just as present among the quarks as between the galaxies? The smallness of the earth in comparison with the unbelievable vastness of the universe should never make us feel unimportant to Him; quite the reverse. What a love he poured out on this tiny planet!!

The Incarnation is all the witness we need of Divine priorities in our regard. But we need reminding, don’t we, of the sheer magnitude of that grace:

Ps 8:3,4 – When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

Also the powerful words in Job 38, one of my favorite passages of scripture.
